What is Blue Zone Dojo

A dojo for the rest of your life

In Japanese, dojo means "place of the way" — a space dedicated to growth, practice, and becoming. Blue Zone Dojo takes that philosophy beyond the martial arts mat and applies it to the most important practice of all: looking after yourself.

Drawing on the science of the world's longest-living communities — the real Blue Zones — and the movement principles of Aikido, this program is built around three pillars that research consistently shows are the foundation of a long, strong life.

Whether you're returning to movement after a break, managing the effects of ageing, or simply wanting to move and think better — this is your space.

Balance

Build the stability and spatial awareness that keeps you confident on your feet — in class, at home, and everywhere in between.

Strength

Develop functional strength that carries you through real life — not just the gym. We focus on movement patterns that matter.

Mind

Sharpen cognition, reduce stress, and cultivate the mental clarity that comes from purposeful, embodied movement practice.

"The dojo doesn't ask how fit you are.
It asks how committed you are to becoming."

How it works

Your path into Blue Zone Dojo

01

Initial Assessment

We start with a one-on-one conversation and movement assessment using the Fullerton and Berg Balance testing protocols. This gives us a clear, evidence-based picture of where you are at, including your fall prevention needs, and what you are working towards. We design everything around you.

02

6-Week Foundation

Your personalised induction into the program. Six weeks of guided sessions across all three pillars with expert instruction, targeted fall prevention training, a Blue Zone Dojo t-shirt, and a clear plan built around your assessment results.

03

Ongoing Practice

Continue your journey as part of the Blue Zone Dojo community. Your program evolves with you, progressive, purposeful, and built to last. Regular reassessment tracks your progress across balance, strength, cognition and fall prevention.

Darius

Aikido 6th Dan · Somatic Leadership Coach · Mental Health and Resilience Educator

Darius has spent over two decades teaching Aikido and guiding people through some of the most meaningful transitions of their lives. His work spans the dojo, the boardroom and everything in between, helping individuals and organisations find clarity, resilience and a deeper sense of direction.

His approach draws on Eastern martial philosophy, somatic intelligence and a genuine understanding of how the mind and body influence each other. People who train with Darius often say the same thing: something shifts, not just physically, but in how they carry themselves through daily life.

As the architect of Blue Zone Dojo, Darius brings that same depth of practice to a program built around living well for the long term.
