Iaido

What is Iaido?

Iaido is a graceful practice involving the use and etiquette of the ‘katana,’ or Japanese sword. It is more focused and slower-paced than Aikido and most other martial arts.

There are fewer movements but they are sought to be perfected, thus it can be a meditative exercise, which takes great concentration.

Is it different to Aikido?

Iaido is a separate training, and yet complimentary to Aikido. It is studied largely for the same reasons as weapons: for what it reveals about the roots of Aikido as a martial art. However, practitioners are welcome to practise Iaido alone even if they don’t do Aikido.
